Dallas county fires 16 of 36 deputy constables accused of lying on civil court paperwork
Friday, June 10th, 2011Of the 36 Dallas County deputy constables that were investigated in connection with lying about their whereabouts in official documents, 16 have been fired, officials said Tuesday.
Another 9 deputies resigned and three others retired, according to county spokeswoman Maria Arita. Eight more deputies remain in their positions pending further investigation, she said.
The deputies were accused of lying about serving civil court papers such as eviction notices. The county auditors office found discrepancies in their paperwork by comparing data from GPS units in their vehicles and with official documents they filled out.
The allegations came to light in December when precinct 1 Constable Derick Evans, who is facing campaign related charges, notified county officials of possible problems. Commissioners asked the auditor to investigate all five offices.
